Hi! I am Sheila (aka The Candy Lady) and I absolutely love to love people’s pets! I graduated from the Veterinary Technician Program at Seneca College in 1995. Yes, I have been a Vet Tech for a long time, which shows how much I absolutely love caring for pets and their people! My first clinic experience was in a mixed practice with dogs, cats and horses (we even had a large animal surgery room!). After 8 years I moved to another mixed animal practice with a focus on dairy cattle. With this clinic I attended a course at the University of Saskatoon in Theriogenology to enhance reproduction programs on dairy farms. Then, after another 8 years, I moved into a Hamilton area small animal practice, with a focus on clinic management.
Now, working in a mobile practice is by far my favourite! Visiting pets and their people at home, in a familiar setting, reduces stress (both pet and people) and gives our medical team the best opportunity to assess a patient, before we even get to a hands-on exam. And YES, we bring lots of “candy” (pet appropriate treats) to ensure they want to be our friend! When I’m not working, I can usually be found at home hanging out with my own 4 critters (2 cats – Phoenix and Mortie and 2 dogs – Twix and Otis), visiting friends and family or outdoors working around my home.
