There are 5 dog vaccines available – DA2PP (distemper/ parvo), Rabies, Leptospirosis, Bordetella and Lyme. DA2PP and rabies are core vaccines that are recommended to be given to all dogs unless medically contraindicated. Leptospirosis, bordetella and lyme are all “lifestyle” vaccines, recommended based on your dog’s lifestyle.

There are 3 cat vaccines available – Rabies, FVRCP and FeLV. Rabies and FVRCP are core vaccines that are recommended to be given to all cats over the age of 8 weeks unless medically contraindicated.

Yes, it is recommended that you vaccinate your indoor cat, even if they never set one foot outside. The rabies vaccine is required by law, and rabies is an incurable, horrible disease if caught. Your cat could escape or a small mammal or bat could get into your home and infect your cat- so better to be safe than sorry!
As with any medication or injection there is always a risk of side effects, but they are usually acute, and mild. The same as when you get vaccinated, your pet may feel unwell and tired for a few days after being vaccinated. Lethargy, nausea and soreness at the injection site are all expected side effects. If your pet experiences profuse vomiting or diarrhea, their face becomes swollen, or the side effects are lasting longer than a few days please contact your veterinarian.
Yes! Not only can spaying/ neutering your pet stop unwanted behavior such as excessive humping or spraying but it can also be beneficial to your pet’s long term health! By spaying or neutering your pet you reduce the risk of reproductive cancers such as mammary or testicular cancer. It also nearly eradicates the risk of pyometra, a dangerous condition that impacts intact females. If you choose to not fix your pet, please do not let your cat or dog roam outside unsupervised and separate unfixed females and males. Let’s work together to stop overpopulation!

It is highly recommended to have your pet seen yearly by your veterinarian for a checkup and exam. This is very important as it maintains your vet-patient-client-relationship (VPCR) with your vet, allowing them to help and advise you throughout the year. Having your pet seen annually can also help in early detection and prevention of illnesses and disease while also maintaining their regular wellness health such as vaccines and parasite preventatives. Veterinarian’s governing body also legally requires your pet to have this VPCR in order to prescribe and refill medications, so it’s a good idea to maintain that yearly checkup to avoid delays or stoppages in your pet’s medications!
