At-Home Pet Wellness Exams in Ottawa
Help your pet live a long, happy life.
We much prefer being proactive to being reactive! Yearly health checks with a snout to tail exam, maintaining recommended vaccines and wellness diagnostics can help to maintain your pet’s health, and detect diseases or concerns early! Almost always, the earlier something is found, the easier and more effective it is to treat.
In addition to vaccines, diagnostics, and preventatives, spaying or neutering is a key part of long-term wellness care. Dog neutering and dog spaying not only help prevent unwanted litters, but they also reduce the risk of serious health conditions such as reproductive cancers and pyometra. These procedures can support a calmer temperament, improve quality of life, and allow your pet to live a healthier, safer life.
Vaccinations
Puppy or kitten vaccines are an essential part of wellness care for a pet. They help to mitigate and prevent the spread and contraction of preventable diseases and viruses in a pet’s environment. Vaccines need to be boosted on a 1-3 year cycle, so stay up to date on health checks and allow your pet to live their best healthy life!

Frequently
Asked Questions
What vaccines does my dog need?
There are 5 dog vaccines available – DA2PP (distemper/ parvo), Rabies, Leptospirosis, Bordetella and Lyme. DA2PP and rabies are core vaccines that are recommended to be given to all dogs unless medically contraindicated. Leptospirosis, bordetella and lyme are all “lifestyle” vaccines, recommended based on your dog’s lifestyle.
What vaccines does my cat need?
There are 3 cat vaccines available – Rabies, FVRCP and FeLV. Rabies and FVRCP are core vaccines that are recommended to be given to all cats over the age of 8 weeks unless medically contraindicated.
Do I need to vaccinate my indoor cat?
Are there side effects associated with vaccinating my pet?
Should I spay/ neuter my pet?
Does my pet need to be seen every year even if I have no concerns about them?
It is highly recommended to have your pet seen yearly by your veterinarian for a checkup and exam. This is very important as it maintains your vet-patient-client-relationship (VPCR) with your vet, allowing them to help and advise you throughout the year. Having your pet seen annually can also help in early detection and prevention of illnesses and disease while also maintaining their regular wellness health such as vaccines and parasite preventatives. Veterinarian’s governing body also legally requires your pet to have this VPCR in order to prescribe and refill medications, so it’s a good idea to maintain that yearly checkup to avoid delays or stoppages in your pet’s medications!
